How to Upload a Book
Upload your book to extract text and metadata for AI content generation. Books belong to a specific author (pen name).
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Navigate to Books in the sidebar
- Click Upload Book
- Select an existing author or create a new pen name inline
- Choose Book Type:
- Text book (manuscript) — novels, non-fiction, etc.
- Low/no-text book — colouring books, puzzles, word searches, children's picture books
- Upload your file (required for text books):
- Best: Word (.docx)
- Also good: ePub (.epub)
- PDF: only if you don't have Word or ePub — scanned PDFs often fail analysis
- Fill in book details: title, genre, description, target audience, optional cover, purchase link
- Click Upload
Background analysis: After upload, the system reads your book to find themes and quotes. Large books can take 10–20 minutes. You can leave the page and check progress on the book details page. Analysis requires more than 500 words of readable text and an AI key configured in Set Up.
File Requirements
- Formats: .docx, .pdf, .epub
- Maximum size: 50 MB
- Content: Text-based manuscripts work best; images in files are not extracted as text
After Upload
- Open the book from Books to view analysis status
- Click Analyze Book if analysis hasn't started (requires AI key)
- Edit metadata, manage cover, and generate content once analysis completes
Best Practices
- Use .docx when possible for best theme and quote extraction
- Include a clear title and description — they improve generated content
- Set target audience in book details for more relevant posts
- Review extracted metadata after upload and correct if needed
