Prerequisites

Important: You must have a Bluesky account to connect. If you don't have one, you can sign up at bsky.app.

Creating a Bluesky Account

  1. Visit bsky.app
  2. Click "Sign Up"
  3. Choose a username (handle)
  4. Complete the registration process
  5. Verify your email address
  6. Set up your profile

Connecting Your Account

Step-by-Step Guide

Note: Bluesky connections are managed through Outstand, which provides secure OAuth integration.

  1. Navigate to Set Up in the sidebar
  2. Scroll to the Social Media Connections section
  3. Find the Bluesky card in the platform grid
  4. Click the "Connect Bluesky" button
  5. You'll be redirected to Bluesky's authorization page (via Outstand)
  6. Log in with your Bluesky account
  7. Review the permissions requested and click "Authorize"
  8. You'll be redirected back to our platform
  9. Your Bluesky account will now be connected!

Permissions We Request

  • Read profile: Access to your Bluesky profile information
  • Create posts: Ability to create and publish posts on your behalf
  • Read feeds: Access to your timeline and feeds
Security: All tokens are encrypted and stored securely. We never store your Bluesky password.

Troubleshooting

"Connection failed" Error

Possible causes:

  • Invalid Bluesky account credentials
  • Network connectivity issues
  • Bluesky API temporary issues
  • Outstand service configuration issues

Solutions:

  1. Verify your Bluesky account credentials
  2. Check your internet connection
  3. Try connecting again after a few minutes
  4. Ensure Outstand is properly configured in your account

"Authorization failed" Error

Possible causes:

  • You cancelled the authorization
  • Network connectivity issues
  • Bluesky API temporary issues

Solutions:

  1. Try connecting again
  2. Check your internet connection
  3. Wait a few minutes and retry if Bluesky's API is experiencing issues

Token Expiration Issues

Bluesky access tokens may expire. Our system automatically refreshes tokens, but if refresh fails:

  1. Go to Setup page
  2. If you experience connection issues, disconnect and reconnect your account

Best Practices

Optimal Posting Times

  • Weekdays: 8am, 12pm, 5pm, 8pm
  • Weekends: 10am, 2pm, 7pm
  • Times are in your local timezone

Content Strategy

  • Engage authentically: Bluesky users value genuine conversations
  • Use hashtags: Include relevant book and genre hashtags
  • Join conversations: Reply to posts and engage with the community
  • Share insights: Post about your writing process and book journey
  • Be consistent: Regular posting helps build your audience

Hashtag Recommendations

  • Use 3-5 hashtags per post
  • Include genre-specific hashtags (#RomanceBooks, #FantasyBooks, etc.)
  • Use general book hashtags (#BookLovers, #Reading, #Bookstagram)
  • Place hashtags at the end of your post
